Select a help topic from below by pressing the relevent key : A - Alignment bars M - Using a mouse S - Pad/track size E - Edit object O - Orientation T - Insert track F - File Menu P - Inserting a pad U - Undo last object G - Snap to grid Q - Quit I - Inserting an IC R - Redraw PCB Alignment Bars Pressing A will toggle the align feature on or off. When on, horizontal and vertical bars will appear at the pointer position to aid precise alignment of components. Diagonal tracks Pressing D when editing or creating a track toggles between normal and diagonal tracks. With diagonal on, tracks a lines from one point to another, unlike normal tracks which have corners. Deleting an object To delete an object first select it using the edit command (E). When the object is selected you can press D or the DEL key to delete it. Editing objects Press E to select an object to edit. Place the pointer over the object and press the SPACEBAR or the Left mouse button. The number of objects found at this position will be shown. Keep pressing the SPACEBAR or the Left mouse button to sift through the objects. When a track is selected, it will be highlighted briefly to aid identification. Press ENTER or the Right mouse button to edit the chosen object. File menu Press F to enter the File Menu. From here you can Save, Load and Print your PCB. Press S to save your PCB. Type in the filename and press ENTER Press L to load a PCB. Type in the filename and press ENTER Press P to print the PCB on an Epson compatible printer. Press P again to print, or press T to print to a file, or press F to print from a previously saved print file. If you print to file you can dump the file to any printer from MS-DOS on a PC using COPY file LPT1. Snap to grid Pressing G will toggle the snap on or off. When on, the objects placed will be automatically aligned to an invisible 0.1 inch grid. When off, objects can be placed anywhere. 'ON' or 'OFF' will be shown on the left side of the screen by the grid icon. Inserting an Integrated Circuit Pressing I at any time will let you insert an IC. Type in the number of pins on the IC and the IC will appear in the bottom left of the drawing area. Pressing the SPACEBAR or the Left mouse button will move the IC to the pointer positon. Press ENTER or the Right mouse button to confirm the position of the IC. Another IC will now appear to be placed elsewhere. Using the mouse Connecting a standard serial "Microsoft" mouse to the serial port makes it easier to use PCBCAD. The left button emulates the SPACEBAR, the right button, the ENTER key. Should the mouse not respond when using the program, press M to re-initialize it. Changing the orientation of an object Pressing O toggles between vertical and horizontal orientation of an object. In the case of tracks, the orientation determines the direction the track starts in from the first position clicked. 'VERT' or 'HORI' will be shown on the left side of the screen by the orientation icon. Changing the size of a pad Pressing S when editing a pad or IC allows you to change the size of the pad(s). There are three sizes available numbered 1 to 3. After pressing S the number beside the pad size icon will flash. Press 1, 2, or 3 and the pad size will change. Inserting pads Pressing P will let you insert two pads at a fixed spacing. Press 0 to 9 to select the space between the pads. If you select 0, only one pad will be displayed. Place the pads using the SPACEBAR or the Left mouse button. Press ENTER or the Right mouse button to confirm the position. Quit Press Q to quit PCB CAD. If your PCB is not saved, you will be asked if you want to save it. Redraw After doing some editing it may become necassary to press R to redraw the PCB, eg., after editing a track since the old track is not deleted. Changing the size of pads and the widths of tracks Pressing S when not editing an object lets you toggle between changing the pad size and changing the track width. The number beside one of the icons will flash and you should press 1, 2, or 3. Changing the width of a track Pressing S when editing a track allows you to change the width of the track. There are three sizes available numbered 1 to 3. After pressing S the number beside the track width icon will flash. Press 1, 2, or 3 and the track width will change. Inserting a track Pressing T at any time will let you insert a track between two pads. Pressing the SPACEBAR or the Left mouse button marks the start of the track. When the mouse is moved you will see that the lines are always straight with no sharp corners, which is necassary when etching PCBs. Pressing O changes the starting direction of the line. Pressing the SPACEBAR or the Left mouse button again marks the end of the track and draws it solid. A new track then starts from here. Press D for a diagonal track. Pressing ENTER or the Right mouse button allows you to start a new track. Undo last object Pressing U when placing an object will abort the operation and take you back to the main menu. At the main menu, pressing U will remove the last object placed.
